Herpetofauna is the term for amphibians
and reptiles. Night Creatures in the Nocturnal House Later this year we are planning to launch our Night Creatures enclosure. Specially designed and lit to create night in the day and day in the night, the Nocturnal House will allow visitors a glimpse into the secret night time world of some our more elsuive species. Animals such as the hazel (or common) dormouse, the edible dormouse and the hedghog become active at twilight, hunting under the cover of darkness, and so are rarely seen. Winter hibernation further reduces the chances of spotting them. Our new exhibit will provide that rare opportunity. We are hoping to include some British species of bat. These unique and remarkable creatures are the only mammals that can fly, though their wings have greater similarities with the human arm than a bird's wing. More information about this exciting new exhibit can be found on the Keeper's Blog. |
